Concerts are regularly organised by the CLASSIC ROCK SOCIETY, featuring some of the best Rock & Prog artists around.
Our stated core aim is, as it ever was, to foster the growth and development of ‘grass roots’ progressive and general ‘classic’ rock by bringing together like-minded individuals and giving bands who may struggle for gigs a platform to play. These smaller shows are to some extent subsidised by larger profile bands who also play for the Society. As well as our three regular venues in Yorkshire (Montgomery Hall in Wath-Upon-Dearne and the Wesley Centre in Maltby) and Lancashire (The Citadel in St Helens), we use other venues including the Robin 2 in Bilston. We are always looking for ways to expand and give the Society a more ‘national’ and less parochial flavour.
Our key event of the year is our ‘Best Of The Year’ awards, at our ‘home venue’ Montgomery Hall, Wath-Upon-Dearne (near Rotherham, UK). This is always well attended by bands and fans alike, with a guest presenter each year – the 2014 event featured Fish, of Marillion fame, while recent events have featured ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris, Steve Hackett, John Wetton, Sonja Kristina, Oliver Wakeman and Gordon Giltrap.
